Company Profile
Our company was established as a subsidiary of Sumiseki Holdings Ltd. on April 1st 2016, through the succession and split off of the New Materials Division of Sumiseki Materials Co.
We inherited the only integrated production of diamonds in Japan, from synthesis to classification, which began with the development of Sumitomo Coal Mining Co. into a new business.We aim to provide a stable supply of high quality products.
History
- 1927
- Established Sumitomo Coal Mining Co., Ltd.
- 1987
- Started synthesis experiment of poly-crystalline diamond powders with Tokyo Institute of Technology.
- 1989
- Started production experiment at our old coal mining sites in Akabira, Hokkaido.
- 1991
- Started commercial production and sales by Izumi Diamonds Ltd, 100% subsidiary of Sumitomo Coal Mining Ltd.
- 1998
- Changed to Izumi Technology Co., Ltd. by merging with 3 other manufacturing subsidiaries to expand our business field boundlessly.
- 2000

Partially transferred the sales department of the diamond business to Sumitomo Coal Mining Co., Ltd.
Increased production of fine sizes for high demand in the magnetic head and HD fields. - 2002
- Expanded our classification facility to meet increased demand from the sapphire and other optical industries.
- 2003
- Renamed to Diamond Materials Department, New Materials Division, Sumitomo Coal Mining Co. and completed transfer of the company, including the manufacturing division
- 2006
- Established Customer Service Department and Nanomaterials Research Institute
- 2008
- Company name changed to Sumiseki Materials Co.
- 2016
- Sumiseki Materials Ltd. established Dia Materials Ltd. through a company split and took over the New Materials Division.
